 James and Erin McKay were inspired to start their personal property inventory business through stories of friends and family members that experienced devastating losses due to theft, fire or natural disasters. Additionally, like most people, they had always planned on doing an inventory of their own home and had never “gotten around to it.”
Through the years, James and Erin have spoken to many others who have endured instances that necessitated filing an insurance claim, yet did not have proper documentation of their belongings. Most stated that thousands of dollars worth of items were forgotten.
James and Erin's desire to help others properly recover from a disaster motivated them to establish Northern Inventory. Through training with the Hartmans, they have learned of numerous other events when an inventory would be helpful. For example, many executors are faced with the task of providing an inventory for a loved one's estate. A personal property inventory would help their customers through the emotional turmoil and time demands while dealing with their loss.
The McKays are proud of the trusting relationship they build with their customers. They are insured and hold a Business Services Bond, plus come with high recommendations from current customers, Insurance Agents, CPAs, Financial Planners and other professionals and business associates.
 Keeping it a family business, Northern Inventory’s West Michigan office is led by Erin’s uncle, Jim Irwin. Jim studied at Grand Valley State University, majoring in Economics and Psychology. Previous to joining James and Erin in the home and business inventory service, Jim worked at Steelcase and Ford Motor Company. He retired from Mettler Toledo.
Born and raised in West Michigan, Jim reiterates the desire to provide this much needed service to West Michigan residents and business owners.
